Colors of Autumn at Yellowstone National Park<br /> I guess years ago fires ravaged this area as is evident of the scarcity of trees and low lying bushes and scrubs that have taken there place. It made for some interesting fall colors, just creeping along the ground and out into the meadows. I spent quite a bit of time just wandering through the swampy, low lying area. I guess years ago fires ravaged this area as is evident of the scarcity of trees and low lying bushes and scrubs that have taken there place. It made for some interesting fall colors, just creeping along the ground and out into the meadows. I spent quite a bit of time just wandering through the swampy, low lying area. Kind of felt at home in the muck, sort of speak.

  • Latourel Falls is serenity in Oregon<br /> I can still feel the cool summer mist as it blankets down wave after wave of pure refreshing water droplets. The camera doesn’t quite like it and I find myself forever cleaning the lens of mist, as I set up for a low angle shot, along the brooke that flows under the falls. I guess somebody has to go all the way up to Oregon in the summer and grab these shots. It might as well be me, but you’re welcome at any time to crawl under this falls, clothes and all, and let it catch you off-guard and take your breath away.
  • “The Dells” at Sunset, Prescott, Arizona<br /> The neat thing about HDR, is capturing a moment as your percieved it, just as you remember it. This photo of a setting sun over “The Dells” at Watson Lake, pretty much takes me there, as I saw it, when I was there. Pictures that are not HDR, do not always do that for me. Everyones different in that regard, but after it’s all said and done, there will never be anything quite like actually being there. For a photographer or tourist, Watson Lake in Prescott, Arizona, is worth the visit.
  • Pigeon Point Lighthouse, Pescadero, California<br /> High above a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean is Pigeon Point Lighthouse. It was exciting arriving during a period when flowers blanketed the hillsides. Imagine how treacherous it was for mariners traveling at night in these rocky coastal waters. I can still feel the cold wind whipping up from below the cliffs, when I view this photo.
  • Twi-lights of San Francisco<br /> There’s a great spot up on the hill above the Golden Gate Bridge at Hendrick Point,to photograph the city lights of San Francisco, looking east. There was a photography class of maybe 30 photographers all lined up, trying to get the shot. Fortunately for us, it was a fogless night, a rare moment here during our stay. I couldn’t imagine charging people money, only to have the bridge completely fogged in. I guess you just take your chances.
  • The Nightmare Dentist @ Barrett Jackson Car Auction-2013<br /> Years ago I was in the Dental Field and the Dental Surgeon I worked with looked a little like this guy. He was a black man nearing retirement, and every once in a while, he would come into the office looking a little like this guy. He loved a good game of chess, and loved playing with me, because I really wasn’t that good, but I’d let him win once in a while.<br /> <br /> So the next time you’re at a Barrett-Jackson car auction, say hi to the resurrected Dr Taylor, who somehow came back as a white guy..HeHe!!

  • Arizona Desert in Bloom<br /> A rear sight in Phoenix area, is a colorful desert. Maybe every 10 years we will get enough winter rain to wake up the dormant seeds buried in the desert floor. If so spring comes alive and it’s a crazy time for photographers, who are out in droves. And so we wait for another wet winter..and wait..and wait!
  • On the Tail of a Pirate Ship<br /> From the deck of the Cabo Escape in the open waters at the tip of Lands End in Cabo San Lucas, we spotted a rogue Pirate ship at sunset. The captain opened in a full throttle to push the pirate ship into open waters. As we approached ever so cautiously, it turned out this was another one of those party ships with a bunch of drunk tourist. We turned quickly to the wind at starboard side and hulled butt out of there, as to not be dragged into the rum-soaked fumes of this out of control drunkard ship. At a safe distance we settle back to watch the sun sink into the distant ocean. As I awoke from my run away imagination I realized I was on the drunkard party boat.
  • Shipwrecked in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico<br /> Well not really. Tonight in Cabo we went on the Pirate ship “Buccaneer” and whale watched and sailed over to El Arco. Weather was about as perfect as it gets.<br /> <br /> Anyone out there own a Canon 5D? Last night sailing out to El Arco at sunset my camera got weird, malfunctioned and shut down. Opened it up and the mirror fell out the camera. The glue that held the mirror to the camera housing must have loosened up because of the moist, humid air in Cabo. To say the least, I felt like I was out of business. I went online and found I wasn’t the only person having this problem. Good thing I had a smaller back-up camera, so I could at least get some shots. This one was taken tonight off the front of the Pirate ship, towards the El Arco, to the west. Perfect time in Cabo for whale watching. They were everywhere.
  • The Majestic Arches, Utah<br /> Looking toward “Wall Street” to the west, I couldn’t help but stop and take a shot of this huge red sandstone formation. When you’re there, standing, looking up at these rocks, you’re hypnotized by their shear size. The wind was literally blowing me over trying to get this shot. I had both hands on the tripod, waiting for a lull in the wind. When it came I had my shot. The clouds were moving so fast, I thought they might distort in the photo, especially taking 3 shots for an HDR. Arches National Park is an excellent hiking destination. Paths wonder everywhere and are pleasant and easy navigate. Try it!
  • Parliament Building, Victoria, British Columbia<br /> What a beautiful city! In contrast to our 1st visit some years ago. We arrived in gloomy weather and went straight to a B&B we had arranged online, by-passing the city altogether. Boy, did we miss out. The downtown area by the boat harbor is bustling with parks, shopping,hotels, restaurants and lots of history and lots of people. My wife was wondering how we missed all this our 1st visit. We would have had a whole different feeling about the place. Now we plan to come back and spend more time discovering the area.<br /> <br /> The Parliament Building lights up at night and is a great spot to just hang out, people watch and photograph.
  • Glade Creek Grist Mill-Revisit in West Virginia<br /> I had to go and try it again this past fall, ahead of a trip to Germany. I had heard the changing leaves in North Carolina and West Virginina were exceptional and that was my cue. Nothing is more fun than crawling up some wooded back road, not knowing what’s up around the next bend. The county roads go on forever. Getting lost was part of the experience, where GPS was a waste of time. The Grist Mill happens to be the most photographed spot in West Virgina. Something out of a Kinkade painting. I’m sure he made many trips here in the fall. There is no better time to come.

  • Yellow Boat in Burano, Italy<br /> I was taking my chances of ending up in the “drink” in Burano with this photo. You can see by the photo, that I leaned way to far over the water, to get the boat as much in the photo as I could. Any farther and I was in the canal. It’s kind of crazy when I look back, expensive camera and all, would never survive the splash. No one ever said photographers weren’t a little crazy. But, I got the shot!
  • Oh Romeo..Oh Romeo! Venice, Italy<br /> I’m always impressed by how pretty balconies, windows and doors are in Venice. They sure make a statement. I could probably spend the whole day doing nothing but photographing windows, doors and balconies around Venice and Burano.<br /> <br /> I did a video not long ago using Venice as a backdrop to a song by Michael Buble called “Home”. Those brave enough to click on the” link” below, can have a taste of me singing around Venice. Let me know if you would like me to post others I have done, or stick to photography, or both.   • Towering Plateaus in the forefront of Snow-capped La Sal Mountains in Utah<br /> Leaving Arches National Park heading for Grand Junction, Colorado I spotted these towering plateaus, and just had to stop and grab a photo. They’re so majestic, I decided to wander out into the high desert pasture to grab a quick shot. I noticed some bulls off to the left of me, so I knew I shouldn’t wander to far away from the safety of the barbed wire fence. After a stare-down and nostrils flaring, that was my cue to get out of there.
  • Cruisin’ Through Glacier Bay, Alaska<br /> I don’t think I’ve felt farther from civilization, then I felt in Glacier Bay, Alaska. It’s like you get a flat tire there, you’re gonna be eaten by wolves. Well being on a cruiseship, it could break down. I guess that’s not a bad thing. By the time you eat up all the food, another cruiseship is barreling through. You might get a little tired of the entertainment.<br /> <br /> Not many people go out on deck, when cruising in Alaska. The air, even in the summer is quite cold, when the boat is moving. But the scenery is like nowhere else in the world. My guess is the only place close, would be up in Sweden and Norway, through the fjords, and down in New Zealand through Fjordland. Got to put those on my bucket list.
  • St Mary’s Lake at Glacier National Park<br /> This is one of the most popular spots to stop and take a picture of St Mary’s Lake. Cars would stop, someone would jump out, take a quick picture, and off they went. I knew the sunset was going to be special, so I hung out, marked my spot, and waited for the perfect moment. Knowing the rule of sunsets; when the sun cast it’s orange, yellow and red hues, it’s not over, yet that’s when most photographers pack it in. I like to wait for the possible second round of color, the more soft, purple pastels. They don’t always come, but when they do, it’s magic.
  • Moody Clouds of Crescent Lake, Olympia, Washington<br /> I drove up from Phoenix to Olympia National Park, to attend a 3-day photography seminar. I don’t usually go to photo seminars, but just to get out of Phoenix and get into some old growth forest with waterfalls and lakes and streams, was just the ticket to a long and hot Arizona summer. The trip turned into a 6,ooo mile trek to national parks all over the northwest, including Canada. But that’s another story.<br /> <br /> I met a local, one of the teachers, who like myself was itchy to get out and do some more shooting. It was quite cloudy and the sun was setting with no drama to capture. So I said, let’s go down to the lake and just see what happens. The skies to the east were pretty dark, and out of no where they opened up for about 30 seconds. I hurried up and got off some shots, while my friend was still setting up. And that was the end of the light. It pays to be ready, or maybe just lucky.<br /> <br /> Got any great ideas of places to travel to this year, let me know.
  • Russian Orthodox Church in downtown Sitka, Alaska<br /> It’s always sunny in Sitka, Alaska. Well, at least the two times we visited this town, it was. You know how we reason about things; if two people are doing it, then we claim “everyone’s doing it”. Every port we visited, it was cloudy and cold, in the the summer. But Sitka, was different. It’s a comfotable little town that is great to walk. Most of what you want to see is within walking distance. This little church seem to find my camera and an HDR shot was just what it needed to amplify it’s coolness. Hope you agree.
