Golden Sunset of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico<br /> The changing winds of winter, sometimes makes us long for the golden warm sands of a tropical beach somewhere. I just checked weather.com. It’s going to be 88 degrees and sunny in Puerto Vallarta tomorrow. Pretty much what it was when I took this sunset photo over the Pacific Ocean in Puerto Vallarta. It’s raining this evening in Phoenix. I can’t remember when we last had rain here. It’s been a long time and we are excited. Our 1st winter storm. So with the cooler weather, what better time then now, to put a log on the fire and dream about sunny beaches in some far off southern tropical paradise! “Hasta La Vista..Baby”!!

Golden Sunset of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
The changing winds of winter, sometimes makes us long for the golden warm sands of a tropical beach somewhere. I just checked weather.com. It’s going to be 88 degrees and sunny in Puerto Vallarta tomorrow. Pretty much what it was when I took this sunset photo over the Pacific Ocean in Puerto Vallarta. It’s raining this evening in Phoenix. I can’t remember when we last had rain here. It’s been a long time and we are excited. Our 1st winter storm. So with the cooler weather, what better time then now, to put a log on the fire and dream about sunny beaches in some far off southern tropical paradise! “Hasta La Vista..Baby”!!

  • Totem Pole, Sitka, Alaska<br /> Many Totem Poles can be found as you hike the paths through Sitka National Historic Park in Alaska. Thought I’d turn the photo to black and white, and then colorize back in the original colors in Photoshop. It’s interesting to see how many different variations the native indians came up with, for their unique totem pole. Sitka is one of my favorite Alaskan towns. It’s easy to walk and enjoy this quaint part of Alaska. For some reason, each visit here has had the best weather, and maybe that’s why I want to keep coming back.
  • Carlsbad Caverns Eery Formations, New Mexico<br /> You truly are in a different world when you travel 800 feet below ground, into this mammoth cavern. It use to be our hang-out years ago, as we toured and performed in local towns around the area, such as Carlsbad, New Mexico. This trip was exclusively for shooting the cavern and seemed so different and surreal, then years ago. We had a new found respect for this amazing place. Photographs cannot truly capture how alive your senses are, when drifting through nature’s work of art. You lose perspective of time and space. In the main cavern, cool air currents flow by you at a constant 56 degrees. That’s pretty tolerable.<br /> <br /> It’s hard to get a sense of distance and depth, but my guess is, the farthest wall in the photo is probably 200 feet in away.
  • Boulders on Northern California Coast<br /> The fog had lifted somewhat and patches of blue started to appear. Pretty normal summer weather along the California Coast. We manage to make it up along the coast each year, typically in the summer, when weather in Phoenix is blistering hot. It’s a great change and one of the best places for coastal photography with coves, cliffs, mountainous regions and of course fog!
  • Taking the Plunge at Krka Falls, Croatia<br /> I never thought the cascades would end. We started at the top and kept following the falls all the way down. The grass was growing in the falls and all around it. I had been to alot of falls, but this one was so different and by far my favorite. It is so accessble at points along it’s banks, making photography very fun and interesting. Krka Falls is located about an hours drive out of Split, Croatia, which is straight east of Venice, across the Adriatic Sea.
  • Enjoying a porch in Bar Harbor, Maine<br /> That’s “Bah-Hah-Bah”, to the locals. Each time we have visited Bar Harbor, we end up staying at the same B&B. We spent many hours on this porch in the evening, working on photos and the blog. We love the old fashion feel of just kicking back, enjoying the outdoor weather, with no T.V., no radio..ah except for the modern day vices..our laptap! I guess we could have gone without it, but that didn’t sound like any fun.
  • Mackinac Bridge from Mackinac Island, Michigan<br /> Every evening tourist flock to the west shore to watch the sunset over Mackinac Bridge to the west. Lake Huron stretches out like an ocean, so big you can’t see to the other side. Imagine in the winter, when all tourist have left, this lake turns to ice. For locals, it connects the mainland to the island, and snowmobiles take to the water, or should I say ice, and the boats are dry docked. After Christmas, they line up all the Christmas trees, across the lake as guiding post for the snowmobiles to follow. Pretty clever! I guess the big question each year is; “who is the brave one to test the ice first”. If you’re wrong, goodbye snowmobile and maybe goodbye you!<br /> <br /> This photo was taken in mid September this year. We like to visit areas past tourist season. Rooms are easy to find and at a great price. We stayed in a beautiful B&B, we called the day of arrival and got it for $85.00 per night. Not a bad price and the place was fabulous.
  • Walking Bridge in Yosemite Valley, California<br /> Surrounded by towering mountains, the Merced River meanders through Yosemite Valley. I could spend days here just wandering along the river banks, enjoying the cool breezes, wild life and grassy fields that make up the valley. This walking bridge made a good photographic spot along the trail. I had to wait for a family that was forever enjoying the water under the bridge. I remained patient and they finally moved on.
  • Red Sandstone Plateaus, Arizona<br /> Plenty of red sandstone to go around in northern Arizona. After spending the evening shooting Horseshoe Bend, the hike back takes one past these interesting formations. To see more photos of Arizona and Horseshoe Bend, go to right sidebar under Categories.
  • Lamp Lights of Fussen, Germany<br /> It was definitely a cold night out roaming around Fussen. We had just spent the day visiting Neuschwanstein Castle and decided to spend the night down the hill in Fussen. Not many folks were out. I was the only one taking pictures. Kind of felt like I had the town to myself. Gave me time to relax and not feel rushed about having people in the way. This shot was taken of one of the major shopping streets in town. Best part was a full moon, but I’ll show those another time.
  • Bustlng City on Water- Venice, Italy<br /> As anyone who has followed my blog knows, Venice is my favorite city. It has a long history for me, being that I lived close by for a few years in my life. With every return, it’s fun to rediscover. I met my wife outside of Venice and we had the opportunity to go on dates along the canals, enjoy the restaurants, meander through the narrow passageways, go shopping and otherwise get lost in it’s rich history. As I have learned, one never grows tired of Venice, if you reach out with your eyes, ears and thoughts and feel it’s pressence all around you.
  • Dining Room, Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, Michigan<br /> The green just kind of overwhelms you, walking into this dining room. The hotel has a policy, if you want to explore the hotel, you pay a fee of $15.00 and you can roam, take pictures, enjoy a visit and check out photos of the movies that were filmed on location at the hotel. I thought it was worth it, not to be bugged for having a tripod and larger camera. They take it in stride and it really is a “Grand Hotel” to visit. Staying there was kind of out of the budget. Photographers never sit still long enough to enjoy these kind of places.
  • Parade of Hot Air Balloons tonight in Gilbert Arizona<br /> Amid the reflective Christmas lights of Gilbert City Hall Complex in Arizona, the annual Gilbert Festival presented a parade of Hot Air Balloons. Quite a spectacle as each Hot Air Balloon took it’s turn to rise to the occasion on a clear calm night, picture-perfect and of course weather-perfect..after it’s Arizona.<br /> <br /> I probably took a hundred photos trying to catch all balloons up in the sky and all balloons firing up at the same time, then finally it happened.
  • Statue of James & Wilbur Grimm, Hanua, Germany<br /> We flew into Frankfurt busted tired. A flight all the way from Phoenix, Az can do things to you. It was 8:00 a.m. and I told my wife we should find a place to acclimate and get some rest. I said; just find a town on the outskirts of Frankfurt and we’ll hit the “Romantic Road” to start our journey south from there. We ended up in Hanua. Later in the day, we ventured out from our hotel room and found this piazza. We took pictures standing next to the statue not realizing it was the “Brothers Grimm”.They are among the most well-known storytellers of European folk tales. Some of the most famous ones are: Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, the Frog Prince, Rapunzel and Snow White.
  • Sunset over Pacific Coast Highway near Monterey, California<br /> We were down shooting video and stills of Julia Pfeiffer State Park as the sun was setting. As dusk fell we headed north to Monterey, only to be stopped by this after-glow of amazing sunset colors. We just had to pull over and take advantage of the moment. This coastline near Big Sur, California has got to be one of the world’s most scenic drives
  • Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre, Italy<br /> I thought I would take advantage of the wild flowers growing out of the cliffs in Riomaggiore, as the storm clouds grew above the town. It ‘s quite impressive how the “cliff towns” of Cinque Terre” are carved out of the sides of the mountain that ends in the Ligurian Sea. All the homes and businesses are painted in different pastel colors. A very magical place that has enjoyed tourist for hundreds of years. For photographers and artist, it’s a unique and special wonderland.

  • Petrified Wood Cascades in Northern, California<br /> I didn’t take notice when I was shooting this photo that the rock formation was very similiar to petrified wood. I’m use to seeing this in Arizona, but California? I was more interested in the cascades, with the old growth forest surrounding it. Then the trouble began. I couldn’t figure out how to get out of the hole I had climbed in. Sometimes we are so focused on getting the shot, we don’t always see the dangers we put ourselves in. I’m speaking of photographers and the chances we take to bring home these shots.
  • Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe, California<br /> The frigid clear waters of Lake Tahoe are surrounded by the Sierra Nevada mountain range. This alpine lake is a natural, as it gets it water primarily from snow melt. Tour Boats come and go daily to this Cove. We hiked for what seemed like miles down to Vikingsholm Mansion. This photo was taken on the beach in front of the mansion. How would you like to wake up to this view everyday?
  • Glowing Sunset of St. Mary’s Lake, Glacier National Park, Montana<br /> It was at the end of the season for Glacier National Park. After seeing St. Mary’s Lake during the day, I knew I had to come back to hit this spot for a sunset shot. This is one of the more popular spots and the clouds that day gave me a clue that the sunset could be interesting. I wasn’t disappointed, as many fellow photographers lined up for this amazing sunset.
  • St Mary Falls, Glacier National Park<br /> It was getting near sunset and I had my doubts about trekking on a 1 mile hike out to St Mary Falls, alone. This is Wyoming, wild bear country and I have a fear about bears. I’ve run into them face-to-face before, seen them on many trails and I’m not fond of it. I never ventured out this late in the day, but I knew this would be the perfect time to catch a good shot of the falls. An Asian couple was speeding by me and I ask if I could tag along. We made it to the falls in record time. They wanted to snap a quick picture and head back. I convinced them to hang out for a little while so I could get my gear set up and snap a few different perspectives. They lasted for about 5 minutes and I did not want to be left behind, so I packed it in and we headed back. It doesn’t take much to spook yourself when you’re traveling alone. This stop was late in the season and they were closing Glacier National Park for the winter in just a few days. I was on a 6000 mile, two month journey to hit all the National Parks in the Northwest, including some in Canada. I kept moving south and autumn was coming in full bloom. I’ll share some of those another time.
